Most of the chips fall down into the table so containing them and adding dust collection to the cabinet is a good idea. If you are looking to build something make a closed cabinet to mount the top onto and scrap the plastic base.
It has been good for me I have no complaints. I've been using it for like 4 or 5 years. Bosch router table and 2.25hp router with fixed and plunge base.

I've been doing this for years as a pro and I still get excited when I buy something new. Just buy a few, see what you can do with them and then buy some more as needed. As to the bits, I'd stick to Freud if you are looking for basic bits. The more experienced you get the bigger the doubts! How's that for a positive thought!?! You'll do great if you keep asking questions. We are all beginners at some point! Trust me though. Especially the micro height adjustment I was even able to repurpose the fence from the Bosch. I purchased a far superior Jessem router lift II for $220, made a top out of melamine and popped it in. Although, I would say that if you're up for a fairly easy project making your own table top has benefits. For the price the table is a great starter. The raising and lowering mechanism also had some faults where it would get hung up with sawdust and lubricant and no matter how many times I cleaned it out it seemed like half the time I used the table I was fiddling with it. I work on some larger pieces of wood and having some more acreage helped with stability. For my needs I find the table top to be a little too small. The drawbacks and the reason I ended up upgrading were. That way you can have both the router and a small vacuum plugged in directly so they both come on everytime you flip the switch. Truthfully, my favorite part of the table was the double outlet on the switch. It's light enough to move around the shop to get it out of the way although during use id definitely find a way to bolt it down. For the most part the table is stable and the fence is strong for it's construction. As an owner who fairly recently upgraded from the RA1181 I can't say if it will be what's best for you but I can offer some thoughts that might guide you.Īs a beginner table it's very good.
